Meher Baba’s Message to America

Since arriving in America, I have been asked many times what solution have I brought for the social problems now confronting you — what did I have to offer that would solve the problems of unemployment, prohibition, crime, that would eliminate the strife between individuals and nations, and pour a healing balm of peace upon a troubled world.

Learn the art of taking your stand on the Truth within. When you live in this Truth, the result is the fusion of the mind and the heart and the end of all fears and sorrow. It is not a dry attainment of mere power or intellectual knowledge. A love which is illumined by the intuitive wisdom of the spirit will bless your life with ever-renewing fulfillment and never-ending sweetness.

Give up all forms of parrotry. Start practicing whatever you truly feel to be true and justly to be just. Do not make a show of your faith and beliefs. You have not to give up your religion, but to give up clinging to the husk of mere ritual and ceremony. To get to the fundamental core of Truth underlying all religions, reach beyond religion.

There is no difference in the realization of the Truth either by a Muslim, Hindu, Zoroastrian, or a Christian. The difference is only in words and terms. Truth is not the monopoly of a particular race or religion.

Jane Paladino’s Story: In 1979 I started dating [husband] Jim. On his bookshelf was the book "Much Silence" with Meher Baba's picture on it. He showed me the book and told me he had been to the Meher Spiritual Center around 1974 with a friend named Elaine Miller. Jim said Elaine thought Baba was God. I took one look at the picture and thought this Elaine must surely be crazy.
